Immune Intelligence

By Shruti Naik

About the Book

In the popular imagination, our immune cells are brute warriors, protecting the fragile ecosystems of our bodies from deadly disease. Yet in the last two decades, immunologists have uncovered a richer story, one where defense is but one strand in a braid of discerning, wise governance. In IMMUNE INTELLIGENCE, acclaimed immunologist Shruti Naik paints a new portrait of our immune system as an exquisite orchestrator that dynamically controls and monitors our biology. She reveals how this cellular intelligence network, with its cognitive sophistication, nuanced communication, and deep memory, coordinates and regulates activities as varied as metabolism, organ repair, and even behavior. It stands at the core of negotiating every disease, from cancer to dementia—and unlocking new cures. In a world of growing vaccine hesitancy and eroding trust in life-saving science, IMMUNE INTELLIGENCE offers a hopeful tale of discovery and understanding, and an astonishing exploration of the capabilities of the human body.
