About the Author
William C. Ratcliff is the John C. and Leslie C. Sutherland Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he directs the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Quantitative Biosciences. He is a Kavli Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, a Packard Fellow in Science and Engineering, and was named one of Popular Science’s “Brilliant 10.” In his lab, he created the Multicellularity Long-Term Evolution Experiment (MuLTEE), in which single-celled yeast have been evolving into multicellular organisms for more than 10,000 generations. His work has been published in Nature, Science, and PNAS, among other journals. He is a frequent podcast guest, including on Sean Carroll’s Mindscape, Quanta Magazine’s The Joy of Why, and Universe Today. He lives in Decatur, Georgia, on a hobby farm with his family, three goats, five peacocks, and thousands of carnivorous plants.
